From Log House to Blog Post

For some time now only one book occupies my reading time: A Team of Rivals,

the Doris Kearns Goodwin biography about Abraham Lincoln. The book is fascinating - all the details about Lincoln's life and the workings and machinations of the lives and events of everyone around him. What an incredible man, and what an incredible moment in our history. Then I began to wonder: what would Lincoln do today? Would he have a Blog? A Facebook Page? A Twitter account with endless tweets?

During the Civil War the telegraph was still fairly new, yet it proved invaluable to Lincoln and his administration. What would that same conflict look like with today's technologies?

All of my grandparents were born in the 1880s and 1890s. During their lives they witnessed the arrival of automobiles, air travel, electricity, space exploration, suburbs, shopping malls... so many incredible changes during their life times. In

fact, both of my grandmothers, born in 1895, had to quit school in 5th grade to go to work and help the family financially. Such a different world than it is today - 120 years after their births...

With the dawning of this new year, it is difficult to imagine what new technology awaits us. I was born just a few days before Sputnik left Earth orbit, signalling the space race between the US and the USSR. Since that time we've added velro, home computers, the internet, nanotechnology, and LED lighting to our lives. To me, one of the most mindblowing new "toys" is the drone. In 2014 drone sales exploded. They are so common now the FCC is considering new regulations, including pilot's licenses for drone operatores.

Every time a new milestone is reached I think there cannot be anything new, only to be "set to rights" by the next new thing.

So, what new technology are you using today? And what type of new gagets would you like to see in the future?
