The Rites of Autumn
'Tis the time of year when we
Celebrate our Dead.
We dance and sing on Hallowe'en
With masks upon our head!
Wildlife, too, is readying
For summer's warmth to end.
Rabbits, bears now scurrying
Return to their own den.
Bats are roosting in their caves
And undearneath the eaves.
Little caterpillars rest
In autumn's yellowed leaves.
Tiny bees nest in the stems
of summer's faded flowers,
Whilst our dear amphibians
Will "sleep" for many hours.
But fear ye not that life is gone
From our precious land.
When winter's icy grip is done
Spring lends her warming hand.
Happy Autumn!!!
